PD5500 Practical Pressure Vessel Design Course

A two day course aimed at providing delegates with an understanding of how to apply the design rules in PD5500.

Content Summary:

  • Relationship with the PED
  • Structure of PD5500
  • Materials and design stresses
  • Impact testing requirements
  • Construction categories
  • Design considerations
  • Cylinders and dished ends under internal pressure and hydraulic test pressure
  • Cylinders and dished ends under external pressure
  • Openings and branch connections
  • Bolted flange connections
  • Welded and bolted flat closures including reinforcement of openings in flat closures

Delegates are provided with comprehensive course notes which incliude worked examples to illustrate the application of design rules.

The course is aimed at individuals who require a refresher, those who wish to expand their knowledge of the design rules in the Code or those new to the industry who have relevant engineering qualifications.  The objective is to enable engineers to navigate their way around the Code and carry out design activities with just pencil, paper and a calculator.  Worked examples are provided to allow individuals to work through design problems at their leisure and for use as a reference document.  This course focuses on the design process and does not involve the use of any software.

Venue:

The course will be held at the Fielder Conference Centre in Hatfield.  Click here for further details and a location map.

Lecturer:

The course will be conducted by Mr Steve Baldwin, Joint Managing Director of FCL.  Mr Baldwin has some 35 years experience in the field of pressurised equipment from both an engineering contractor and end user viewpoint.  FCL’s sister company, Finglow Ltd develop and market software for the design of pressure vessels and heat exchangers to PD5500, ASME VIII Divisions 1 & 2 and EN 13445. This course is not aimed at providing training in the use of FINGLOW software but is designed to provide the delegates with an understanding of the code rules and their application.

Credit card bookings can be made via the FCL Eventbrite web page which can be visited by clicking on the orange Eventbite icon at the bottom right of this page.  Alternatively, you can reserve your place by clicking on the green "Book Course" button here……….
